A consolation prize is given to the loser of a contest. It is meant to make the one who lost feel better about losing. I’m not sure those second place trophies ever really take the full sting away from coming in second. In Psalm 94:19, the psalmist tells us that God’s consolations bring about cheer to those with heavy hears. What are God’s consolations?
Consolations can be defined as things that comfort and take away sadness. What do I know about God that can console me?
- God’s love never fails (Ps
alm 136) - He is faithful (Lamentations 3:22-23)
- God loves the world (John 3:16)
God’s consolations are for those who come in second, though. The wonder of these consolations is that God, the creator of the earth, desires a relationship with us. That God seeks to console us at all, is a wonder. It is in itself a consolation for us whose hearts are heavy with cares.
How does God console you? What verse(s) cheer your soul?
